A perfect place to end our vacation in Lana'i! Our waitress was so friendly, but that's pretty much everyone on that island! We were seated outside with a beautiful view of Manele Bay. This place can be super romantic, with their loveseat-style couches, too! We went for the omakase (chef's choice) menu and were so pleased with that decision! We were so happy with our meal that we asked to meet the chef, and of course, Chef Sean was the BEST! He made our visit so worthwhile and unforgettable. We rounded out the meal with flourless chocolate cake and green tea ice cream. It wasn't different from any other we've had, but it was delicious and the texture was perfect and I would eat it again! Nobu Lana'i offered the best views on the most wonderful island, had top-notch service, and 5-star food!

My family loves sushi and great Japanese food so it was a no brainer that we needed to make a visit to Chef Matsuhisa's Nobu Lana'i while visiting the private island. The restaurant is set cliffside in the Four Seasons Resort Lana'i at Manele Bay overlooking a protected marine reserve. The inside of the restaurant is gorgeous with a modern and clean design. We saved our dinner at Nobu for our last night on Lana'i because I was worried how my children would behave and hoped all the other dinners would be dress rehearsals for this fancy restaurant. When the hostess seated us, I almost requested her to put us in their noisiest section. But as we were seated on loveseat-style couches and told they had a keiki menu, my worries for the most part were put to rest. My son has shown a preference to shrimp and loved the crispy cream shrimp bites and edamame. My daughter is a more adventurous eater when it comes to sushi, so we ordered off the regular menu for her. She enjoyed ikura, maguro, and kohada. Her favorite is ikura and we had to order her two more pieces. It's apparent that she didn't get her love of sushi from me as I ordered all my dishes fully cooked with the exception of some spicy ahi. Nobu Lana'i offers the same hot and cold menu items as their other locations but in addition offers special items exclusive only to Lana'i. You can be sure that I ordered off that menu! I had the Kauai shrimp dumplings and the local whitefish tempura. Both dishes were delicious. My husband opted for the premium omakase or chef's choice where menu items are left up to the chef. His seven course meal included: scallop ceviche, seafood salad, sushi (oburi otoro, maguro, hotate, kampachi), king crab, wagyu beef served on hot lava rock , spicy mushroom soup, and chilled shiso soup for dessert. But that wasn't fancy enough for him and he ordered lobster sashimi which was absolutely amazing and delicious. The chef later created a lobster soup for our family to enjoy. Finally, we ended our extravagant meal with dessert: assorted mochi ice cream in unique flavors like ume and lihing and Nobu's banana soy tobanyaki: caramelized bananas, rum raisin ice cream, toasted walnuts and banana nut bread croutons. Ultimately, we have had better sushi on Oahu, but not at a restaurant located on a private island that overlooks the ocean. Dinner was excellent and the service was even better. Although dining with little ones can be worrisome, Nobu Lana'i made it a little less stressful with a great kids' menu and informal seating. Oh, and the lava flow helped too.

I made reservations long in advance for our first anniversary. Requested the little nook seating that can be seen on their website. The manager seated us and said that he noticed we requested the seat on the website but he has never seen the website, so he thinks this must be the table we want. (It wasn't) Our waitress is Courtney. She is very nice and friendly and happy to take our order for some nice sake. We ordered the omakase. Because we want the best that the chef has to offer. $120 per person...but this was a celebration night!! Toro - three pieces to start the fire. It's toro...really...how can you go wrong? Ummm. It was the least fatty toro I have ever had. So...not a strong start. Kampachi was bland and tasted like peanuts. Salmon abori. My hubby says "it's just like I ate the ocean". Total complement since nothing he loves more than the ocean. Except it may have been sour. Kauai Shrimp with eggplant cilantro and jalapeño. Spicy and probably the best dish all night. Two tiny shrimp. Second bottle of sake with hopes that it would get better. Nope. Not any better. Pan seared "onaga" with miso porcini butter so dry. So so dry. And pretty sure that it wasn't even onaga. My husband asked the manager who had no response. He did offer another dish but by then I was so disappointed. And then the sushi was smaller than genki sushi. And with less flavor. Dessert was like chewing on a coffee bean with can whipped cream on top. Couldn't eat it. Joe the manager and Courtney our waitress were very nice. And the bill was comped when we mentioned the onaga. Amazing. It was like they knew it was wrong and rather than tell us what kind of fish it was they comped the bill and asked us to come back the next night. Saddest Nobu ever. I'm sure if Chef Nobu had any idea this was they way it was he would be ashamed. The only reason there is two stars is because the manager did the right thing and didn't charge us for the disaster of a night.

I have been a Nobu fan for years now. You really can never go wrong here! The food and atmosphere at each location always makes for a memorable experience. The view over the quiet sandy beach at the Four Seasons was just the icing on the cake! We ate here for lunch out by the pool for some sushi and cocktails. I only gave three stars because the waiting staff was rather absent (but still kind). Since Nobu is typically a rather upscale dining experience, we were a little disappointed by that. Their soft shell crab and shrimp tempura sushi rolls were absolutely delicious. The quality and presentations of the food certainly make the prices worthwhile.

My wife and I ate here while staying at the hotel back in October last year. I must admit that I was so excited to see they had a Nobu here. Living on the east coast, I hear about how great Nobu in NYC is. So I was counting the minutes until we ate here. We were with a group of about 10 people. The service was fantastic but the sushi I felt, was nothing special. It was certainly uber fresh and tasted great, but I was expecting to have my taste buds blown away. That wasn't the case. I really wanted to love this place and I certainly bragged about eating there. Lol. But at the end of the day, I wouldn't eat here again at that cost. Each couple had to contribute about $200 and that 1000% was not $200 worth of great sushi. I really was so disappointed in the food but the ambiance and service kept it at 3 stars. We just left there scratching our heads thinking what's so great about Nobu. I have yet to eat at another location but I'm going to keep an open mind and hope the next one I patronize will be a lot better. Reading other reviews, seems to be somewhat of a consistent experience.

So Nobu... My wife and I were in Lana'i for our honeymoon and stayed at the Four Seasons, which was magnificent. We'd been reading about the Nobu that had just opened at the resort, and clearly (being the huge fish fans that we are) made reservations one evening... Overall: everything was GREAT. But NOT as great at all the magazines reviewing it and the people hyping it up to be described it as. Fish was VERY fresh, appetizers were great, but my wife and I were a bit shocked at the price. We KNEW it'd be expensive (if not the most expensive of our trip), but for what you actually GET, it was a bit lackluster... Portions aren't what they're made out to be at Nobu, so ask before you order!

We stayed at Manele bay and dined at Nobu twice during our stay. We ordered many small dishes and sashimi. The dinner was well paced and the service was great. Totally loved the popcorn rock shrimp with spicy sauce and the shishito peppers. Sunset, beach, cocktails, amazing location truly made this dinner experience so magical.

We stayed on the island of Lanai for 11 days in April. I apologize ahead if the information is not up to date due to my delayed review. We dined at Nobu only once for dinner. I love the concept of ordering all first and the chef would decide the order of delivery to bring the best taste. Drinks tasted light so it won't ruin the food. Impression: Served food were miniature arts! Nicely presented. You don't need to worry about ordering too much. I loved their Spinach Salad with dried Miso. I wanted to have that every night...

Here on Lana'i for a golf tourney that Ben won! Best meal ever @ great service & suggestions regarding selections. Really a fine dining experience. Located inside at The Manele Bay Hotel.

We were celebrating our anniversary and were also previous residence of Lana'i and employers of both hotels so when we give this reviews it's from the heart and from experience. We had spicy ahi sushi, which wasn't spicy at all, 2 pc big eye tuna sashimi (that was good) but pricey, the spinach salad was mediocre (I've had better at even Target or Pizza Hut) and some edamame and shishito peppers, which that was good! The staff was friendly and attentive and the decor nothing to show it was a Japanese Restaurant. Very disappointed after so many friends and co workers recommend we go try out this restaurant. And plus, we are originally from this island I would not recommend this restaurant to future patrons.

I had an excellent dining experience at Nobu Lanai. Everything from the drinks to the food and ambiance were great. Servers were very attentive too! We sat on the terrace and had a nice view which overlooked the hotel grounds, swimming pool, and Hulopoe beach. However the only drawback to sitting on the terrace was that it was quite dark. We had to use the flashlight on our phones to read the menu. Also, we were not able to fully enjoy the food presentations because lighting was too dim. Overall we had a great experience and can't wait to return the next time we are on the island!
